Interview with the cosplayer Cinnamon Annie – Intervista con la cosplayer Cinnamon Annie

I`m an Ecuadorian cosplayer, cosmaker, product designer, freak, and geek. Doing everything I can for fun, for being with my friends and enjoying life!

How was born your passion for cosplay?

I have liked arts and crafts always, since I was a little girl. In the University I learned a lot more about materials and process and even fashion. Cosplay is just my geek expression about what I have learned all my life. I like every step from planning, saving money, workshops, stress before convention and the final results.

Who has introduced you to cosplay?

In the oldest convention in my city, they make the biggest cosplay contest. At first we were just a few, that`s when I decided to join them in the stage.

What has been the first cosplay that you have done?

Rukia from Bleach, black shinigami uniform was a must. I thought I looked just like the character at that time. I made my props, costume and informative drawings (from first episode). I have used it a lot of times but until now I don`t have proper photos.

Instead what has been your favorite cosplay?

My favorite character is Asuka Langley from Evangelion this year, since I try to cosplay as many characters I feel identify with, the list is long. I once was very happy with Hatsune Miku until it was mainstream… just kidding, I just made a bunch of cosplays of her but I needed to try more characters.

What has been the last cosplay?

Raven Queen from Ever After High, a very personal project for my birthday 🙂 in fact it was a duo cosplay with my boyfriend, he dressed as Dexter Charming .I don`t know if we will ever used them in a convention but we invest a lot of time in that outfits since the figures have many details.

What cosplay you would like to do in the future?

My –pending projects- folder is big! I have some alone projects, duo cosplays, big team groups and everything is for this year. I have left many characters for next year since we don`t have much time :(. This year I made videogames and comic characters, I want to make more movie characters, big girly dresses, more pilot suits! and if luck is with us maybe new armors.

How do you choose a cosplay?

While reading the manga, watching the anime or a movie. Knowing the character is very important since it`s necessary to perform or act as he/she does. Then the outfit, I need to know if I`m capable of doing that and what I will need. I download many pictures to my pending project folder and then wait until the chance comes (money-time-convention). It usually is when my friends watch or read the same and we decide to do a cosplay team, is better sharing with them.

How long does it take to create a costume?

Between two or three weeks if I have a lot of work. Making cosplays for others consumes a lot of time u.u but I have learned a lot form that. I buy fabrics and materials when I get the ones for the commissions. I recycle a lot with stuff I already have at home like scratch and left over materials so there is no need to keep looking for stuff many days. I usually make my costumes late at night while boyfriend is playing WoW jaja, during our spare time. By now I have many wigs but if it`s necessary I buy them one month earlier with circle lens.

For you what’s the best part in the word cosplay, the “cos” part or the “play” part?

I enjoy both, while doing the outfit creativity is tested at the very limit. Some days you wonder what was the mangaka thinking about that costume? How can I attach that –insert costume part- if gravity doesn`t help? Those characters are super tall , why? It`s really funny :D.

And then sharing with other fans and friends, being the mean girl, the handsome guy, the shy character, or the strongest woman! Is some features you don`t have the chance to share everyday. I miss a lot performing on stage but being at the convention doing photos is fun too.

I think that your best cosplay is Rogue from Marvel Comics. It was difficult to find the perfect wig for this costume?

Thanks very much n.n, I have adore Rogue since I watched X-men when I was a kid. Actually is my Asuka wig with white hair extensions that was my recycled item there. I looked on Internet for a wig but they are a bit expensive and I need every penny for the costume. I enjoy a lot this cosplay since it was our first Comic team.

Asuka Langley 3.0 it’s another of your cosplay that I liked very much. What was the biggest challenge in the making of this cosplay?

All the details, being aware of all of them was a hard work and a lot of time thinking. Every time I saw my reference images and I spotted something new! I thought I would never finish the suit on time. Then the day I used it at the convention I had some troubles with the patch, I wasn´t really aware of the people around me since it was difficult to walk. That day I was judge, for that I took off the patch.

In your gallery on Facebook I saw that you have done Rogue and Psylocke, two cosplay from Marvel Universe. Why do you choose to do this characters?

I`m more into Marvel than DC…don`t kill me xD. Both of them are really strong women with lots of problems just like someone I know. Even though they are important in the Marvel universe, they are audacious, courageous, determined and energetic.

Is there anyone who can help you in preparing the costumes? Do you create the accessories or do you buy them somewhere?

In the best case I do all: costume, props, wig styling, shoe transformation, etc. But sometimes I lack time that’s when my boyfriend helps me with the props. And other times neither of us has time so my friends have helped, basically hole Cosplayers Quito (our cosplay group).

Have you ever participated in the contest during conventions? Have you ever won any prize?

On my first year I entered every cosplay contest I could, I won some of them but the most remarkable was being 2nd place in Plaza Colon from 2008. It was my first time in other city and my second cosplay, they gave me a bunch of amazing prizes like collective figurines.

Have you ever been in conventions outside your country? Have you ever been in Italy for a convention?

I was last year in a cosplay party in Bogota – Colombia with my boyfriend, we met a lot of amazing cosplayers and friends. We had a great time with them because the bond of cosplay was there. I have never travel to Europe, the shame u.u but I really wish to know more countries and attend to conventions, know more friends and learn from them.

What means for you be a cosplayer?

Being able to express creativity, sharing with others your fanatism, learning from others even if they live far away. Knowing that with a little smile you can share happiness with people that maybe you will never see again, but that they will cherish the moment on a photo. Being happy with friends, having joyful moments together.

What are your projects for the future?

I need to finish my pending projects..well the ones I have already started before the year ends! I have some with my girl friends that have to be done before everyone forgets xD!

The dreams in the drawer?

My Star Wars costumes and a lot of pending photos of a lot of cosplays I already have. Mainly because of the lack of time.

Sono una cosplayer, cosmaker, product designer, freak, e geek ecuadoregna. Faccio tutto il possibile per divertirmi, stare con gli amici e godermi la vita!

Com’è nata la tua passione per il cosplay?

Ho sempre amato l’arte e l’artigianato, fin da quando ero una bambina piccola. All’università ho imparato molto sui materiali e sui metodi e persino sullo stile. Il cosplay è giusto la mia espressione geek di tutto quello che ho imparato nella mia vita. Mi piace ogni passo dal pianificare, al salvare il denaro,  dal laboratorio allo stress prima convention e al risultato finale.

Chi ti ha introdotto nel mondo del cosplay?

Nella più vecchia convention della mia città, fanno il più grande contest di cosplay. All’inizio eravamo pochi, quello è stato il momento in cui ho deciso di salire sullo stage.

Qual è stato il primo cosplay che hai fatto?

Rukia da Bleach, uniforme black shinigami era un must. Al tempo pensavo che somigliassi proprio come il personaggio. Avevo fatto le mie props, il costume e i disegni informativi (dal primo episodio). L’ho usato molte volte ma fino ad ora non ho fotografie adatte.

Invece qual è il tuo cosplayer preferito?

Il mio personaggio preferito è Asuka Langley da Evangelion quest’anno, poiché cerco di fare  cosplay dei tanti personaggi in cui mi identifico, la lista è lunga. Un tempo ero molto contenta con Hatsune Miku finché non è diventata mainstream… sto scherzando, ho appena fatto un mucchio di suoi cosplay ma ho bisogno di provare altri personaggi.

L’ultimo cosplay che hai fatto qual è stato?

Raven Queen da Ever After High, un progetto molto personale per il mio compleanno 🙂 in effetti è stato un cosplay di coppia con il mio ragazzo che era vestito da Dexter Charming. Non so se useremo questi costume ad una convention ma abbiamo investito molto tempo in questi costume dato che i personaggi hanno molti dettagli.

Quale cosplay vorresti fare in futuro?

La mia cartella suoi progetti pendenti è grande! Ho alcuni progetti da sola, cosplay di coppia, grandi gruppi ed è tutto per quest’anno. Ho lasciato molti personaggi per l’anno prossimo dato che non abbiamo molto :(. Quest’anno ho fatto personaggi da videogame e fumetti, voglio fare più personaggi dai film, grandi vestiti da ragazza, più suit da pilota! e se la fortuna è con me nuove armature.

Come scegli i cosplay?

Quando leggo un manga, guardo un anime o un film. Conoscere i personaggi è molto importante dato che è necessario per eseguire o agire come fa il personaggio. Poi c’è il costume, devo sapere se sono capace di farlo e di cosa ho bisogno. Scarico molte immagini nella mia cartella dei progetti pendenti e poi aspetto che venga la possibilità (soldi-tempo-convention). E’ di solito quando i miei amici guardano o leggono la stessa cosa e decidiamo di fare un gruppo cosplay, è meglio condividerlo con loro.

Quanto tempo ci vuole per creare un costume?

Tra le due e tre settimana se ho molto da lavorare. Fare cosplay per altri consuma molto tempo u.u ma ho imparato molto da questo. Compro le stoffe e i materiali quando quando ottengo quelli per le commissioni. Riciclo molte cose già ho a casa strisce e pezzi di materiali così certi giorni non c’è bisogno di cercare altro materiale. Di solito faccio i miei costumi tardi di notte quando il mio ragazzo gioca a WoW eheh, durante il nostro tempo libero. Adesso ho molte ali che non mi servono le ho comprate un mese fa con le lenti a contatto.

Per te qual è la parte migliore della parola “cosplay”, “cos” o “play”?

Mi piacciono entrambe, quando creo il costume la mia creatività viene testata al limite. Alcuni giorni ti chiedi cosa stava pensando la manganka su quel costume? Come posso unire quell’inserto parte del costume se la gravità non aiuta? Quei personaggi sono super alti, perché? E’ veramente divertente :D. E poi condividere con gli altri fans ed amici, essere la mean girl, il bel ragazzo, il timido, o la donna più forte! Sono alcune caratteristiche che non hai la possibilità di condividere tutti i giorni. Mi manca molto esibirmi nello stage ma stare alla convention e fare foto è lo stesso molto divertente.

Penso che uno dei tuoi cosplay migliori sia Rogue dalla Marvel Comics. E’ stato difficile trovare la parrucca perfetta per questo costume?

Grazie mille n.n, Ho adorato Rogue sin da quando ho visto gli X-men quando ero bambina. In realtà è la mia parrucca di Asuka con qualche extension di capelli bianca che è stato il mio oggetto riciclato lì. Ho visto su Internet per una parrucca ma erano tutte troppe costose e avevo bisogno di ogni penny per il costume. Mi è piaciuto molto questo cosplay perché è stato il mio primo Comic team.

Asuka Langley 3.0 è un altro dei tuoi cosplay che mi è piaciuto molto. Qual è stata la più grande sfida nella creazione di questo cosplay?

Tutti i dettagli, è stato un lavoro difficile essere cosciente di tutti loro e ho passato molto tempo pensandoci. Ogni qualcuno vedevo le mie immagini di riferimento individuavo qualcosa di nuovo! Ho pensato che non avrei mai finite la suit in tempo. Poi il giorno che l’ho usato alla convention ho avuto qualche problema con la benda, non ero realmente cosciente delle persone intorno a me dato che mi era difficile camminare. Quel giorno facevo da giurato, per farlo mi sono tolta la benda.

Nella tua gallery su Facebook ho visto che hai fatto Rogue e Psylocke, due cosplay dal Marvel Universe. Perché hai scelto questi personaggi?

Mi piace di più la Marvel della DC…non uccidermi xD. Entrambe sono donne molto forti con molti problemi come qualcuno che conosco. Anche se sono importanti nel Marvel Universe, sono audaci, coraggiose, determinate ed energiche.

C’è qualcuno che ti aiuta nella preparazione dei costumi? Gli accessori te li crei da sola o li compri da qualche parte?

Nella maggior parte dei casi faccio tutto io: costume, props, stile della parrucca, trasformazione delle scarpe, ecc. Ma alcune volte mi manca il tempo in questi casi mi aiuta il mio ragazzo con le props. E certe volte nessuno di noi due ha tempo quindi mi aiutano i miei amici, di solito i Cosplayers Quito (il nostro gruppo cosplay).

Hai partecipato a dei contest durante le fiere, ecc… , hai mai vinto qualche premio?

Nel mio primo anno facevo tutti i cosplay contest che potevo, ne ho vinti alcuni ma il più importante fu il secondo posto al Plaza Colon nel 2008. E’ stata la mia prima volta in un’altra città e il mio secondo cosplay, mi hanno dato un mucchio di fantastici premi come action figures da collezione.

Sei mai stata a convention fuori dal tuo paese? Sei mai stata ad una convention in Italia?

L’anno scorso sono andata ad un cosplay party a Bogotà in Colombia con il mio ragazzo, abbiamo incontrato moltissimi cosplayers e amici stupendi. Ci siamo trovati benissimo con loro perché il legame del cosplay era là. Non ho mai viaggiato in Europa, è una vergogna u.u ma spero realmente di conoscere altri paesi e di partecipare alle convention, conoscere molti amici e imparare da loro.

Che significa per te essere una cosplayer?

Essere capace di esprimere la mia creatività, condividere con altri il mio fanatismo, imparare da altri anche se abitano lontano. Sapere che con un piccolo sorriso può condividere la felicità con persone che forse non rivedrai mai più, ma che terranno caro il ricordo del momento con una foto. Essere felice con gli amici, avere momenti divertenti insieme.

A young woman of 25 years who lives in the north east of France. I finished my studies last year in the area of ​​the custom for the show.

How was born your passion for cosplay?

Since I was little I love dressing up costumes and tinker with what I would find in the attic of my parents. I discovered cosplay to 16/17 years on the Internet. And I’m really up a few years later when I discovering Japanese animation conventions.

Who has introduced you to cosplay?

On the Internet, looking for images to sew me a costume for Yuna costume party at school.

What has been the first cosplay that you have done?

Yuna from Final Fantasy X, but I have no picture of this cosplay. Then it was Yuko from XXX Holic.

Instead what has been your favorite cosplay?

I hesitate between Zelda and Rei Highschool of the dead. The first is good, but hard to wear with armor and the big dress. The second I also really like and it’s easy to wear all the day.

What has been the last cosplay?

Madoka from Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

What cosplay you would like to do in the future?

I am currently working on cosplay Samara (Mass Effect), Kitana (Mortal Kombat) and a cosplay Final Fantasy surprise for selections on ECG at Japan Expo.

How do you choose a cosplay?

Most often because I love the character’s personality. Sometimes because I loved the outfit, and it happens that it is to please a friend.

How long does it take to create a costume?

On average 2/3 weeks. But it can go up to 2 months for a difficult suit.

I think one of your best cosplay is the Black Widow from Marvel Comics, so tell me what’s the biggest difficult of this cosplay?

The most complicated was the belt. Because it has a embossed design.

I saw that you have posted on Facebook a preview of the cosplay of Kitana from Mortal Kombat. Why you choose this character of this famous series of videogame?

I loved the character of the outfit, and a friend proposed me a small group to Japan Expo on Saturday. It was an opportunity for me to finally make this costume.

Miku from Vocaloid is another of your cosplay that is very pretty and kawaii, especially the wig really fits you. It’s difficult to find the perfect wig?

Yes, it is difficult I think. I buy them on the Internet, then I cut them. It should be mostly adapted the bangs hairstyle of the character.

Is there anyone who can help you in preparing the costumes? Do you create the accessories or do you buy them somewhere?

In general I’m doing alone. Sometime for weapons or great accessory I ask help to my father to cut wood or drilling holes.

Have you ever participated in the contest during conventions? Have you ever won any prize?

I often participate in the contest, and it happens to win prizes. To the big competitions like the WCS and the ECG, I have participated, but my group is always comes 2th.

Have you ever been to a convention outside your country? Would you like to come to a convention in Italy?

I’ve been in Belgium, Germany and Switzerland (all countries near me). In Italy I would love to go, but it’s a little farther away from where I live and I especially do not speak Italian.

What means for you be a cosplayer?

First of all have fun! Meet new people and have new challenges with new costumes.

What are your projects for the future?

After the rush for my costumes for Japan expo, give me a little rest. XD In September, I have a outfit from Sheryl planned. I also have a outfit Trinity Blood is started for almost 2 years, it is time that I finish.

The dreams in the drawer?

The Plugsuit of Asuka (Evangelion). I’m so scared to miss this costume that I dare not start. I may be practiced by first making the suit from the movie .0.

Una giovane ragazza di 25 anni che vive nel nord-est della Francia. Ho finito i miei studi all’anno scorso nell’area dei costumi per gli spettacoli.

Com’è nata la tua passione per il cosplay?

Da quando sono piccolo amo indossare i costumi e armeggiare con cosa potessi trovare nell’attico dei miei genitori. Ho scoperto il cosplay all’età di sedicidiciassette anni su internet. E qualche anno dopo ho scoperto le convention sull’animazione giapponese.

Chi ti ha introdotto nel mondo del cosplay?

Su internet, cercando immagini per cucirmi il costume di Yuna per un party a scuola.

Qual è stato il primo cosplay che hai fatto?

Yuna da Final Fantasy X, ma non ho foto di quel cosplay. Poi è stata la volta di Yuko da XXX Holic.

Invece qual è stato il cosplay che ti è piaciuto di più fare?

Ho qualche esitazione tra Zelda e tra Rei da Highschool of the dead. Il primo mi piace molto, ma l’armatura e il grande vestito sono difficili da indossare. Mi piace anche il secondo ed è semplice da indossare per tutto il giorno.

L’ultimo cosplay che hai fatto qual è stato?

Come scegli i cosplay?

Più spesso perché amo la personalità del personaggio. A volte perché mi piace il costume, e succede che capiti per compiacere un amico.

Quanto tempo ci vuole per creare un costume?

In media 2/3 settimana. Ma può andare avanti fino a 2 mesi per un costume difficile.

Penso che uno dei tuoi cosplay più belli sia Black Widow dalla Marvel Comics, quindi dimmi qual è stata la più grande difficoltà nel fare questo cosplay?

La cosa più complicata è stata la cintura. Perché ha un design goffrato.

Ho visto che hai postato su Facebook una preview del cosplay di Kitana da Mortal Kombat. Perché hai scelto di fare questo personaggio da questa nota serie di videogame?

Mi piace il costume del personaggio, e un mio amico mi ha proposto di fare un piccolo gruppo alla Japan Expo per il sabato. E’ stata l’opportunità per me di fare finalmente questo costume.

Miku da Vocaloid è un altro dei tuoi cosplay che è molto carino e kawaii, soprattutto la parrucca ti sta molto bene. E’ stato difficile trovare la parrucca perfetta?

Si, è stato difficile penso. Le ho comprate su Internet, poi le ho tagliate. Dovrebbe essere per lo più adattate le frangette del taglio di capelli del personaggio.

C’è qualcuno che ti aiuta nella preparazione dei costumi? Gli accessori te li crei da sola o li compri da qualche parte?

Di solito faccio tutto da sola. A volte per armi o accessori grandi chiedo l’aiuto di mio padre per tagliare il legno o fare dei fori.

Hai partecipato a dei contest durante le fiere, ecc… , hai mai vinto qualche premio?

Partecipo spesso ai contest, e mi capita di vincere qualche premio. Alle grande competizioni come WCS e ECG, ho partecipato, ma il mio gruppo è arrivato sempre secondo.

Sei mai stata a convention fuori dal tuo paese? Sei mai stata ad una convention italiana?

Sono stata in Belgio, Germania e Svizzera (tutti paesi vicini a me). In Italia vorrei andare, ma è un po’ troppo lontana per dove vivo e soprattutto non so parlare italiano.

Che significa per te essere una cosplayer?

Prima di tutto divertimento! Incontrare nuove persone e avere nuove sfide con nuovi costumi.

Ciao, is a big pleasure for me doing this interview. Here the first question, who are you?

I’m Diana. I’m originally from the Netherlands, from a small town near Amsterdam. But I became a citizen of the planet last few years, working and travelling from one job to the next all over the world. It has been interesting times for sure!

How was born your passion for cosplay?

I got into anime as a kid, and that world expanded very quickly when I connected to the internet for the first time. (although I can’t even remember ever living without it) I found out about the ‘Animecon’ in the Netherlands online, and attended the con the following year. I remember seeing a group of cosplayers waiting in line for the masquerade to start, and I was fascinated by it. It looked like a lot of fun! I made my first cosplay for the next year.

Who has introduced you to cosplay?

I guess the first introduction to cosplay was the Dutch magazine ‘Aniway’. It placed photo’s of the first few Dutch cosplayers. When I first started myself, I didn’t personally know anyone who cosplayed. But I made a LOT of friends right away. The community was very small back then.(and somehow friendlier too) It was almost like we were all family!

What has been the first cosplay that you have done?

My first costume was Lina Inverse from Slayers. I still saved parts of the costume somewhere.

Instead what has been your favorite cosplay?

That’s very hard to say… One of my most favorite costumes is Pretear. It was a huge pink dress, the first really challenging project I did, and the first time I cosplayed internationally. So the dress carries a lot of good memories with it.

What has been the last cosplay?

Ultimate Wasp, on New York Comic Con this year.

What cosplay you would like to do in the future?

Hard to say… There’s a lot I would love to make, but I’m not sure which country I’ll be living in next! If I find my way back to the US, I’d love to make a granado espada costume for Katsucon. If I go back to New Zealand, I’d love to make a Skyrim costume and do shoots in the amazing landscapes there. But I could just focus on working again and not make anything for a while. It’s sort of a ‘go with the flow’ kind of thing right now because I can’t plan that far ahead!

How do you choose a cosplay?

Usually, I pick characters that I really like, or that originate from a series/game/comic that I’m really into. Sometimes I just pick a design that I fall in love with. But in general, I like to cosplay ladies that kick ass! hahahaha

How long does it take to create a costume?

It really depends. There are costumes that are never really finished, and that I keep working on and add details to for over a year. And there’s stuff I just slam together in a weekend or even a day!

Is there anyone who can help you in preparing the costumes? Do you create the accessories or do you buy them somewhere?

When I lived in Europe, my mother sometimes helped out to get a costume done in time. But since I travel, I make every part by myself. (thankfully I learned how to plan projects by now, so I don’t panic the day before the con that much anymore!) And my mom actually cosplays with her friends now! They did ‘Upstairs Downstairs’ this year.

One of my favorite parts is creating the accessories, so I always make those myself. I love experimenting with different materials. Resin, fiberglass, cellophane, vacuform machines… It’s all very exciting!

Have you ever participated in the contest during conventions? Have you ever won any prize?

I’ve participated in a lot of contests over the years. I used to love participating in masquarades because it was a great way to meet people (some of my best friends today I actually met in costume backstage!) and it challenged me to make more eleborate costumes every year. Today I don’t really participate that much anymore, since it takes a lot of time out of your day and it can be quite competitive sometimes. I just like to hang out with people and have fun instead! Though I do love to create a stage performance, especially on events like ‘Japan Expo’, since it’s such a beautiful stage.

I won a bunch of prizes in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Japan and the US.

What means for you be a cosplayer?

It’s just a fun hobby that I do! And at the same time it’s a good way to learn new skills.

What are your projects for the future?

There’s a lot I want to do if I have the time at some point. I’d love to make a skyrim cosplay, a dress from granado espada or more super hero’s! And my friends got me addicted to league of legends, so that would give me enough ideas too

The dreams in the drawer?

I’m pretty much living my dreams right now already! So if anything, I dream I could continue doing what I do as long as I can.

Ciao, è un piacere farti quest’intervista , per prima cosa, presentati ai lettori del mio sito sul cosplay!

Sono Diana. Sono nata in Olanda, in una piccola città vicino Amsterdam. Ma sono diventata una cittadina del Mondo negli ultimi anni, lavorando e viaggiando da un lavoro ad un altro in tutto il mondo. E’ stato un periodo interessante di sicuro!

Com’è nata la tua passione per il cosplay?

Ho conosciuto gli anime quando ero una bambina, e quel mondo si è espanso molto velocemente quando mi sono connessa per la prima volta ad internet. (anche se non ricordo nemmeno di aver mai vissuto senza di essi) Ho scoperto ‘Animecon’ in Olanda online, e sono andata alla fiera l’anno successivo. Ricordo di aver visto un gruppo di cosplayers aspettare in fila che iniziasse la gara, e ne rimasi affascinata. Sembrava essere molto divertente! Feci il mio primo costume l’anno dopo.

Chi ti ha introdotto nel mondo del cosplay?

Penso che la prima introduzione al cosplay fu la rivista olandese ‘Aniway’. C’erano le foto dei primi pochi cosplayers olandesi. Quando iniziai, non conoscevo personalmente nessuno che aveva fatto cosplay. Ma feci subito MOLTI amici. La comunità era molto piccola all’epoca.(e in qualche modo anche più amichevole) Era quasi come se fossimo una famiglia!

Qual è stato il primo cosplay che hai fatto?

Il mio primo costume fu Lina Inverse da Slayers. Ho ancora da qualche parte parti del costume.

Invece qual è stato il cosplay che ti è piaciuto di più fare?

E’ molto difficile da dire… Uno dei miei costumi preferiti è Pretear. Era un grande abito rosa, il primo progetto realmente difficile che ho fatto, e la prima volta che ho fatto cosplay a livello internazionale. Quindi l’abito porta molti bei ricordi.

L’ultimo cosplay che hai fatto qual è stato?

Ultimate Wasp, alla New York Comic Con quest’anno.

Quale cosplay vorresti fare in futuro?

Difficile da dire… C’è né sono molti che vorrei fare, ma non sono sicura quale sarà il prossimo paese in cui abiterò! Se trovo la via per tonare negli USA, mi piacerebbe fare un costume da Granado Espada per il Katsucon. Se torno in Nuova Zelanda, mi piacerebbe fare un costume da Skyrim e fare le foto con i bellissimi paesaggi che ci sono lì. Ma devo concentrarmi solo sul lavoro di nuovo e non fare niente per un po’ di tempo. E’ una sorta di ‘andare con il flusso’ in questo momento perché non posso pianificare molto in avanti!

Come scegli i cosplay?

Di solito, scelgo personaggi che mi piacciono veramente, o che provengono da una serie/videogame/fumetto che mi ha preso molto. A volte scelgo un design che mi ha fatto innamorare. Ma in generale, mi piace fare cosplay di ragazze che spaccano! hahahaha

Quanto tempo ci vuole per creare un costume?

Dipende. Ci sono costumi che non sono mai veramente finiti, e su cui continuo a lavorarci su e ad aggiungerci dettagli per più di un anno. E c’è roba che assemblo insieme in meno di un weekend o anche di un giorno!

C’è qualcuno che ti aiuta nella preparazione dei costumi? Gli accessori te li crei da sola o li compri da qualche parte?

Quando vivevo in Europa, mia madre a volte mi aiutava a finire il costume in tempo. Ma da quando viaggio, faccio ogni parte da sola. (per fortuna ho imparato a pianificare i progetti ormai, così non vado nel panico il giorno prima della fiera più di tanto!) E mia madre ora in realtà fa cosplay con le sue amiche! Hanno fatto ‘Upstairs Downstairs’ quest’anno.

Una delle parti che preferisco è creare gli accessori, quindi il faccio sempre io. Amo sperimentare con diversi tipi di materiali. Resina, fibra di vetro, cellophane, macchine vacuform … E’ tutto molto eccitante!

Hai partecipato a dei contest durante le fiere, ecc… , hai mai vinto qualche premio?

Ho partecipato a molte gare durante gli anni. Mi piaceva partecipare ai contest perché era un ottimo modo per conoscere le persone (alcuni dei miei più cari amici di oggi li ho conosciuto, effettivamente, nel backstage delle gare!) ed era una sfida per creare costumi sempre più elaborati ogni anni. Oggi non partecipo in realtà più molto, dal momento toglie molto di tempo alla giornata e può essere anche abbastanza competitivo a volte. A me invece piace stare insieme alle persone e divertirsi insieme! Anche se amo creare le performance sullo stage, specialmente negli eventi come il ‘Japan Expo’, perché sono un fantastico stage.
Ho vinto molti premi in Olanda, Belgio, Francia, Germania, Giappone e negli USA.

Che vuol dire per te essere cosplayer?

E’ giusto un hobby divertente che faccio! E nello stesso tempo è un ottimo modo per imparare tante nuove competenze.

Quali sono i tuoi progetti per il futuro?

Ci sono molte cose che voglio fare se ho il tempo ad un certo punto. Mi piacerebbe fare un cosplay di Skyrim, un vestito da Granado Espada o altri dai supereroi! E i miei amici mi hanno fatto diventare dipendente da League of Legends, quindi anche questo mi darà abbastanza idee

Il sogno nel cassetto?

Sto già vivendo i miei sogni in questo momento! Quindi se non altro, sogno di poter continuare a fare quello che faccio il più a lungo possibile.

Com’è nata la tua passione per il cosplay?

Scoprì il cosplay per la prima volta all’età di 10 anni…vedevo capolavori riportati in vita …personaggi dei manga e dei videogame che amavo… rappresentati alla perfezione e così mi innamorai di questa grande passione…decidendo che un giorno anch’io sarei entrata in questo mondo!

C’è stato qualcuno che ti ha fatto da “mentore” nel mondo dei cosplay? O che comunque è stato il tuo punto di riferimento?

Si, ho avuto la fortuna di conoscere amici che avevano la mia stessa passione e la praticavano già da tempo… così mi hanno fatta iniziare con loro…per poi prendere la mia strada!

Invece qual è stato il cosplay che ti è piaciuto di più fare?

L’ultimo ossia Bayonetta…sarà perché sono profondamente innamorata di quel personaggio e per me è stata un’emozione e una soddisfazione unica rappresentarla..

C’è un personaggio di cui vorresti fare il cosplay ma che ancora non hai fatto?

Ce ne sono molti… la mia passione non terminerà molto facilmente 😉

Di solito come avviene la scelta di un cosplay da realizzare?

Beh, non c’è un metodo particolare… se sfogliando tra le pagine di un manga o giocando alla consolle noti la maestosità di un personaggio che ti entra letteralmente dentro, come un colpo di fulmine…. è fatta…significa che è tuo e che ti appartiene e quindi lo si studia…lo si disegna e lo si realizza..nel migliore dei modi…

Quando tempo ci vuole per creare un costume?

Dipende, dalla difficoltà di esso e dalla cura dei particolari..più si vuole far bene un cosplay e più ci vuole tempo e fatica.

C’è qualcuno che ti aiuta nella preparazione dei costumi? Gli accessori te li crei da sola o li compri da qualche parte?

No, per me il cosplay, essendo una ragione di vita, va realizzato senza l’aiuto di un negozio o un fornitore…il cosplay è personale..una creatura da far prendere vita… perché quando il lavoro è il tuo e le persone si inchinano ad esso c’è molta più gratifica e soddisfazione! Fortunatamente mi piace crearli e nella realizzazione sono aiutata dalla mia bella mamma.

Hai partecipato a dei contest durante le fiere, ecc… , hai mai vinto qualche premio?

Si, vinsi il terzo premio in una gara …ricevetti una medaglia..

Che vuol dire per te essere cosplayer?

Per me essere un cosplayer significa avverare il sogno di rappresentare i tuoi eroi preferiti, trascinandoli dallo schermo alla realtà, essere il sorriso e la luce negli occhi di tanti ragazzi che amano il tuo personaggio e vedere che tu sei stato all’altezza di interpretarlo alla grande..

Salve a tutti!!! Mi chiamo Emma Cialfi ho 27 anni e vivo a Francavilla al mare una piccola città della costa abruzzese.

Com’è nata la tua passione per il cosplay?

Sette anni fa il mio fidanzato mi portò alla mia prima fiera (Lucca Comics!!!!) e dopo aver visto tutta quella gente “in costume” (allora non sapevo si chiamassero cosplayers!) ho deciso che dovevo farlo anch’io! E l’anno successivo ho iniziato!

C’è stato qualcuno che ti ha fatto da “mentore” nel mondo dei cosplay? O che comunque è stato il tuo punto di riferimento?

No, non c’è stato qualcuno in particolare, ma , ovviamente, prima di lanciarmi in questa avventura mi sono documentata su internet guardando le foto dei miei colleghi italiani e stranieri ed ho tratto spunto dai loro lavori.

Qual è stato il primo cosplay che hai fatto?

Credo la Principessa Kurama da Urusei Yatsura (Lamù), è passato tanto tempo!

Invece qual è stato il cosplay che ti è piaciuto di più fare?

Non saprei, è imbarazzante dover scegliere tra le tue creature!! Per toglierci dall’empasse diciamo che ogni cosplay che ho fatto mi ha dato delle soddisfazioni!

L’ultimo cosplay che hai fatto qual è stato?

Ms. Marvel al Riminicomix di quest’anno.

C’è un personaggio di cui vorresti fare il cosplay ma che ancora non hai fatto?

Ce ne sono molti!!! Dalle eroine Marvel e DC ai personaggi femminili di Oh Great! Spero di avere abbastanza tempo per fare tutto!!!!

Di solito come avviene la scelta di un cosplay da realizzare?

Io parto ripercorrendo tutto il mare di fumetti, manga, anime e film che ho letto e visto. Poi tra i personaggi che mi colpiscono di più scelgo quelli che più si adattano al mio fisico ed alle mie caratteristiche. Raramente scelgo personaggi in base all’estetica senza conoscerne la storia: non li sentirei miei.

Quando tempo ci vuole per creare un costume?

Dipende dalla complessità. Se è un abito totalmente sartoriale non tantissimo (tranne la pelliccia di Loki , che mi ha fatto sudare 7 camicie!!) Forse ci metto di più nella scelta dei materiali.

C’è qualcuno che ti aiuta nella preparazione dei costumi? Gli accessori te li crei da sola o li compri da qualche parte?

Per quanto riguarda la parte sartoriale la mia mentore è nonna Carmelina che con la sua vecchia Singer e tanta pazienza mi insegna a cucire! Per gli accessori fortunatamente ho il mio fidanzato Emilio un “ingeniere del cosplay”!

Hai partecipato a dei contest durante le fiere, ecc… , hai mai vinto qualche premio?

Sì a qualcuno ma non ho mai vinto nulla!!!! Forse non sono ancora pronta! Anche perché c’è molta gente più brava di me!!

Che vuol dire per te essere cosplayer?

Innanzitutto vuol dire amare il modo dei fumetti!! Immedesimarsi talmente tanto in quello che si legge dal voler vestire i panni dei propri personaggi preferiti. Ciò è possibile grazie sicuramente ad una forte dose di esibizionismo, auto ironia ed alla voglia di restare bambini!!

Quali sono i tuoi progetti per il futuro?

Nella vita: Laurearmi, trovare un lavoro e sposarmi! Nel cosplay : sicuramente continuare a farlo fino a 100 anni!!!!!
